What is an EICR?

​

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) assesses the condition of the fixed electrics in a property at the time of inspection. DJD Electrical Services Ltd carries out electrical inspection and testing for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and across Mid Sussex.

We inspect and test the installation within an agreed scope, recording any access restrictions or other limitations. The report sets out the findings, test results and whether the installation is satisfactory for continued use. It is not a guarantee that every part of the installation meets the newest rules.

 

Who should consider an electrical health check?

Landlords: rented homes covered by England’s electrical safety regulations require inspection and testing at least every five years, or sooner where the report specifies. Landlords must also share the report and address required remedial work. Exceptions and transitional arrangements apply; see the current GOV.UK landlord guidance.

Homeowners and buyers: an EICR can help you understand the condition of an existing installation, investigate concerns and plan repairs or a renovation. If an insurer or another party requests a report, check their requirements before booking.

 

What happens during the visit?

• We agree the extent of the inspection, access arrangements and any known electrical issues with you.

• We carry out appropriate visual checks and electrical tests. Power will need to be switched off for parts of the work, so tell us about equipment that must stay running.

• We explain the findings and highlight any immediate danger. Further investigation or repairs are discussed separately; they are not automatically included in the inspection.

• You receive the EICR, including observations, test results, limitations and the recommended next inspection date.

Understanding the report codes

​

• C1: danger is present and immediate action is needed to make it safe.

• C2: a potentially dangerous condition requires urgent remedial work.

• C3: an improvement is recommended; this alone does not make the report unsatisfactory.

• FI: further investigation is required without delay.

We assess each observation in context. An older fuse box or a missing protective device does not automatically receive the same code in every installation. See Electrical Safety First’s EICR guidance for more detail.

 

How long does an EICR take?

The time needed depends on the number of circuits, the property’s size, access and the condition of the installation. We will discuss an estimate when you enquire. Having previous reports available and clearing access to the consumer unit and electrical fittings helps us prepare.

 

What if repairs or upgrades are needed?

​

We can discuss consumer unit upgrades, full or partial rewiring and general electrical repairs, or plans for EV charger installation. Any agreed installation work receives the appropriate testing and certification. Building Regulations notification is provided where the work requires it; the EICR inspection itself is not a Part P notification.
